Meet the Artist #1 Marcel Duchamp

Introduction

Marcel Duchamp was one of the most provocative and revolutionary figures in early 20th century art. He influenced both Dadaism (an art movement that emerged in Europe and America during World War I) and Surrealism ( an art movement that emerged in France during the inter-war period ), and the "readymade" movement. By introducing the concept of a product, we have changed the definition of what is acceptable as art.

The life of Marcel Duchamp

Born in France in 1887, Duchamp was the fourth of six children. His family held a high regard for the arts, and he himself showed early talent for painting. In the early 20th century, Duchamp began to make a name for himself in the Parisian art scene, developing his own style influenced by Cubism and Futurism.

However, Duchamp was not satisfied with the existing art forms and decided to reorient his own art. This led to the birth of the concept of "readymade".

'Fountain' Controversial Artwork

In 1917, Duchamp submitted a commercial ceramic toilet bowl under the pseudonym "R. Mutt" to the Independent Artists' Exhibition in New York. He titled the work "Fountain" and raised the question of what art is and who defines it.

This provocative work caused a great deal of controversy in the art world. His toilet bowl was deemed unqualified as art by the exhibition jury and was never exhibited. However, it was this incident that raised Duchamp's fame and made his concept of readymades widely known.

summary

Marcel Duchamp changed the definition of what is acceptable as art and, as a result, changed the direction of contemporary art. His "Fountain" is one of the most provocative works in art history and still influences our understanding and discussion of art today.

PosterDrops honors Duchamp's innovative spirit and explores new realms of expression through the fusion of digital and modern art. As Duchamp showed in "Fountain", art is created by free thinking and creativity without being bound by existing frameworks and concepts.

In keeping with that spirit, PosterDrops combines modern art methods with digital technology to provide a completely new visual experience. Along the way, we are constantly exploring how art can influence people's lives and evoke emotions and thoughts.

Just like Duchamp did in his time, PosterDrops is expanding the possibilities of art in the present age and pursuing diverse possibilities of visual expression. We hope that through our work, you will deepen your understanding and appreciation of your own art.
